Spamhaus DBL Blacklist
Spamhaus DBL Blacklist
What is the Spamhaus DBL blacklist?
The Spamhaus Domain Block List (DBL) is a list of domains that Spamhaus thinks look untrustworthy. Many email providers check this list to decide whether to trust the emails they receive.
If your domain is listed as "Low Reputation Domains," it means Spamhaus's automated system saw enough warning signs to give your domain a poor score. Think of it like a low hygiene score at a restaurant. Nobody pointed to one specific bad meal. A number of small warning signs added up.
Why did my domain get listed?
A low reputation listing can happen even if you are careful with your sending. It is not only about how many emails you send. These are the most common causes in cold outreach:
- Your email content was flagged by email providers.
- Your campaigns send a lot of emails but get very few replies compared to the volume.
- Your campaigns send the same email with the same content and links in high volumes.
- Your emails contain spam trigger words.
- Many emails bounce because the addresses don't exist.
- Recipients mark your emails as spam.
Spamhaus also mentions that a domain or website can be hijacked by cybercriminals. If you see anything unusual on your website, email accounts, or DNS records, check those too.
Is this because I use QuickMail?
No. QuickMail sends emails from your own mailboxes and domains. We don't use shared sending servers that can get flagged and affect your reputation.
A blacklist like this is connected to your domain and your sending habits, so QuickMail can't cause it or control whether a domain gets listed.
How does it affect my sending?
Some email providers use this list to filter or block messages. While your domain is listed, your emails are more likely to land in spam or be rejected.
What can I do now?
1. Pause sending from the listed domain. We don't recommend sending any emails from it while it is listed. Sending more can make the problem worse.
2. Review your campaigns and rewrite your email copy. Check all campaigns that used the domain and look for the causes listed above.
3. Use variations so your emails don't all look the same. This makes it harder for email providers to flag your content.
4. Check your copy for spam trigger words. Run your emails through a spam checker before you send them:
5. Use custom domain tracking. This helps your deliverability. See Adding Custom Domain Tracking.
6. Check your website, email accounts, and DNS records. Make sure there is nothing you don't recognize, in case the domain was misused by someone else.
How do I get my domain removed?
Spamhaus listings in the "Low Reputation Domains" category update automatically. Once the warning signs stop, the listing can expire on its own.
You can also look up your domain on the Spamhaus lookup page and click More Info. If a delisting request is available, you will see it there, along with any extra details about the listing.
Make sure you have fixed the cause before you ask for removal. If the problem is still happening, the domain can be listed again.
Can QuickMail remove the listing for me?
No. Spamhaus controls its own list, and we can't remove or speed up a listing on your behalf. The fastest way to clear it is to improve your campaigns and sending habits, then check the listing again.
